🧩 How to Fix “Microsoft Office Product Activation Failed” Error

If you’re seeing the “Product Activation Failed” message in Microsoft Office, don’t worry — this quick method can help you reactivate Office without reinstalling or losing your files.

Follow these simple steps:

🧭 Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Close all Microsoft Office applications
Make sure Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and any other Office programs are completely closed.

  2. Open File Explorer
Press Windows + E or click This PC on your desktop.

  3. Navigate to your Office installation folder
    Go to the following path:

Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Microsoft Office

(If your system uses 32-bit Office on 64-bit Windows, check “Program Files (x86)” instead.)

  4. Open your Office version folder
    Open the folder named:

    Office16

(For older versions, it may be Office15, Office14, etc.)

  5. Find and run the rearm tool
Look for the file named OSPPREARM.EXE.

  6. Run the tool as Administrator

    • Right-click on OSPPREARM.EXE

    • Select Run as administrator

    • Wait for it to finish (you won’t see much, just let it complete)

  7. Repeat this process three (3) times
Running it three times helps refresh the activation state completely.

  8. Restart Microsoft Office
Open any Office app like Word or Excel.
✅ The “Product Activation Failed” message should now be gone!

💡 Additional Tips

  • If the issue persists, try restarting your computer after running the tool.

  • Ensure your system date and time are correct.

  • For Office 365 or Microsoft 365 users, you may need to sign back in with your Microsoft account.
